Many people believe that they need to go out for a jog to get some cardio in. Cardio exercises can be done without cycling, playing sports, or going out for a run. There are great cardio exercises that can be done at home.

Jump Rope

A jump rope is a great way to burn some calories. While working out the entire body, jumping rope burns more calories than a typical cardio workout such as walking.

Some people may find jumping rope boring, but if you put your favorite playlist, play around with some jumping styles (skipping, one-leg jump, boxer step, criss-cross, etc), it can be really fun.

High-Intensity Interval Training

A HIIT Cardio session will keep your heart rate up and burn many calories. It is an effective and quick workout that usually lasts 25 to 30 minutes. The idea of the workout is to do many repetitions with very little amounts of rest.

You only need a few feet to do a HIIT workout, so it can be easily done at home.

Try this workout:

10 Burpees

60 Jumping Jacks

10 Push-Ups

20 Squat Jumps

Repeat 4 times and rest 60 seconds before beginning the next set.

Swimming

If you have a pool in your backyard, swimming is a great way to get some cardio in.

You do not need to be a pro to swim and burn some calories. Just try your best, swim a few laps, and your body will thank you for it.

Honestly, I wished I had a large pool in my apartment to do some swimming laps. It would be a great way to change up my routine and not get bored. So if you have a pool, go dive in and give it a try.

Cardio is an important workout to implement when trying to lose weight. When doing cardio, more calories are burned and it increases your caloric deficit. Indicating that the diet does not have to be as restrictive as long as you don’t eat all the calories you just burned.

However, stick to the 80/20 rule. Eighty percent of the foods you implement in your diet should be whole and balanced foods. The rest, 20%, could be any food of your choosing, such as dark chocolate.

A great thing about cardio is that the intensity of the workout can be increased or decreased at any time. Slowly increasing the intensity will increase your metabolism and burn more calories.

Adding some cardio sessions will help you stay fit at home. You do not need to go out to do some cardio, just with a little bit of space you can get a great workout in!

But remember, depending on your goals it is best to do it after your resistance training! Read here.
