MY EXPERIENCE COUNTING MACROS

I never thought I would be someone who would count the number of macronutrients I eat in a day.
Macros, or macronutrients, are the nutrients we eat the most and consist of three categories:
Protein: usually found in meats (chicken, turkey, beef, protein shakes) and more.
Carbohydrates: usually found in grains, fruit, starchy vegetables, grain-based foods (bread, pasta, cereal), etc.
Fats: usually found in a variety of foods. Unsaturated fats are found in foods such as salmon, olive oil, avocados, some nuts, and more. Saturated fats are found in foods, such as butter, cream, processed meats, fatty snack foods (potato chips), pizza/hamburgers, etc.
Counting macros help you learn and control portion sizes, can more efficiently help you reach your goal, and holds you accountable.
The best part about it is that, if I want to eat a cookie and it fits in my macros, I can eat it! However, it has to be a balanced diet. Stick to healthy foods and once in a while, fit that cookie into your micros.
I eat a few grams of sugar-free chocolate every day and it might be my favorite part of the day.
When I began this lifestyle, I already ate healthy. But I did not control my portions; which are very important when trying to have this type of lifestyle.
In August, I felt stuck in my progress. Intuitively, I knew that it was because I was not eating enough. And as a matter of fact, I wasn’t.
For someone, my height, my weight, and the amount of exercise I did, the number of calories and macronutrients I ate in a day was not enough to achieve my goals.
I never deprived myself of foods. I am someone who believes that diets that tell you not to eat carbohydrates or sweets, or deprive yourself of certain foods are not sustainable in the long-term.
I understand short-term goals, such as not eating or eating very little carbohydrates for a few weeks and such. I have done them myself (which I was not very good at) but I could never be that person who takes carbs completely out of the diet. Especially since carbohydrates are good for your body!! People are really afraid of carbs but that is your body’s preferred source of energy - this is where portions come into place. You can eat carbs, just control your portions.
Anyways…
In August, I came across this hard-working woman, Haley Wright, and saw how she has helped many of her clients so I decided to contact her and I am 100% glad I did.
I have only been counting macros for 2 weeks now but I feel great and I know changes are coming. I just have to be consistent, trust the process, and listen to my body.
Before I began counting macronutrients, I thought that it was very restrictive and I was just going to get a general nutrition plan that I would have to follow. But Haley made the process very easy and enjoyable. She created a very personalized plan with food that I was already eating.
I still have a long way to go and I will keep you all updated.
But if you are someone like me, who felt stuck, or just needed some help, don’t be afraid to reach out and try something completely new - it might just end up being great for you.
